Noob Client Problems

Hey all.

I've followed the Setup Guide and the How to Set Up NetGore guide, and the installation validator says I'm good to go. I launch the demogame server, and the demogame client, then log in to the Spodi account.

Once I'm in, however, I can't move around or make the character respond to any commands, I don't see anything moving, and the client switches between the game screen and a black screen from one 10seconds to the next 10 seconds. Latency is in the hundreds.

Any idea what's going on? Is there any more info I need to provide to help fix? Thanks a lot!

Sounds like you might have a problem with your machine. Do you ever have problems playing games?

The hihg latency suggest something to do with your machine. Are you running the server and client on same PC.

I run Eve Online just fine, but yes, I'm running both the client and server on the same machine.

:S I've heard of black flashing screens on a game when the video card is under strain. But it would be the whole screen. :S So, hmmm, what's your system information?

It really sounds like a graphic-oriented problem, not network. The latency is probably just a side-effect of the client freezing up for a bit.

If you can play other graphical-intensive games fine, that almost definitely means its not a physical problem with your hardware and likely not a driver problem. However, it would be useful to make sure your system is fully updated with the latest graphics card driver.

Does the issue still happen before you log in? Or just when the game is loaded? How about the map editor, particle effect editor, or GUI tester?

The problem only happens as I log into the game, but the login screens are fine. The map editor works fine as well /:

Edit: And nope, firewall's not interfering

Huh, that is very weird. Maybe it is a problem with something network-related... sorry to say, but I have absolutely no idea than long-shots such as making sure everything is up-to-date from Windows Update. Sorry. :/

Oh! Maybe it is the world lighting! Try opening up the map files (\DevContent\Maps\) and changing the Indoors value to true (near the top of the map).

<Indoors>False</Indoors>

After you change the values, make sure to delete \DemoGame.Client\Bin\ and rebuild to make sure the new map files are being used.

But why would that cause the No movement and insane latency? I suppose it's worth a try Tongue anything is.
