Hi netgore community!
I'm involved in an mmo project that is in dire need of creative people that have a passion for creating game content. The project itself is not based on the netgore engine, but the vbgore engine. (I'm just posting here because it seems like the vbgore forums are pretty dead now).
The current team:
Me, Jonatan - Programmer
Mia - GFX artist
Klas - Concept artist
Martin - Sound/Music/Slave/Everything else
Some info about the project:
The project (internally called "Sanity" as a codename) has been in development for quite some time. It has evolved through several different forms until we finally became happy with the version we have now. If you want proof of the dedication of our team you can take a look on a post on the vbgore forums named "dragon saga" or something similiar (although the content in there is not representative of the current state of the project) wich was posted a couple of years ago.
Over the years the project have been branched further away from the base vbgore engine, and now pretty much everything except the basic net and graphics code is replaced.
We have worked hard to make sure the setting of the game allows for a very wide scope while still being unique and not of the cookie cutter fantasy type. As a designer on our team you will have the freedom to create most anything between dragons and robots. We have a different take on the post-apocalyptic setting wich allows for many different zones and environments. Some general info about SOME features (we dont want to reveal everything yet) follows in bullet point form:
* Each character will have 2 classes and levels (1 combat class, and one crafting/civilian class). There are 3 combat classes and 3 civilian classes that eventually branch into one of 12 different classes.
* We take the crafting/civilian part of the game very seriously, with different progression paths and players being able to craft any item in the game with plans or reverse engineering.
* The combat will be fast paced and wont require targeting of any kind. Gun skills will be aimed at a specific tile and melee attacks will hit stuff in front / around you (depending on the skill you are using of course)
* The game is totally free of stats. How good you are at performing different tasks will be measured in different levels on a skill table that you will use to progress your character. Also featured will be a "perk table" wich is kind of a mix between wows talents and the perks from Fallout
* With this game we are targeting an audience that is tired of all the "casual friendly" types of mmos currently out there. This will be a bit different from those games, requiring some more dedication and skill to play. We will, of course, still welcome all types of players, but people with lower skills or casual playing times will have to accept they wont get the big rewards the more dedicated players will get.
Development:
We have a very flexible quest system for you to use, that includes some pseudo scripting. We also have a pretty flexible serverside dialog system that lets you dynamically change an npcs AI behaviour / make skill checks on the user / let the user accept quests through branching dialogs and lots more.
We also want to make it easy for our content developers wich is why our mapeditor has built in npc-editor, item-editor and quest-editor.
We are now at the stage in development were most of the fundamental game systems are in place (the systems that we will release the first version of the game with). During the years we have spent refining the game we have learned the importance of avoiding feature creep and overestimating the teams capabilities. We are looking for people with the same mindset as us, people that have a passion for telling stories and creating games for other people to play, but still have a realistic perspective on stuff. We have realised the importance of keeping focus on the fundementals of the game, and our list of features we WONT implement in the first version of the game is currently longer than the list of features that we will have.
Now, if you managed to read through the wall of text and is somewhat interested in the project, you can either PM me, post in this thread, add me on msn: Nemesis_156 [AT] Hotmail.com or mail me at Nemesis156 [AT] gmail.com for more information. I'll clear up some of the questions I think we'll get though (if anyone is interested at all that is, I know most people are busy with their own projects)
* The game will be FREE to play
* You, as a content designer, will be UNPAID. If the project in the future gets any kind of income through donations, they will firstly go to server/technical costs, if anything is left it will be shared among ALL team members (including you).
* We are not currently actively looking for artists/sound/music people for our team, but if you have any of those skills and want to join the team just contact me.
* The entire team is in GMT+1 timezone and most of us have fulltime jobs. People of other timezones are welcome, but we need to be able to speak to each other sometimes.
* The team is in the 22-25 year old range. Younger people are welcome to the team, as long as you think you have the dedication and creativity!

Is this game the same as SVO?
Im confuzzled...
No it's not, why would you think it is? I only posted links to svo as an example..
No we dont have a website up yet, though we already have a domain.
The reason we dont have a website is that we dont really have lots of information to share with people yet. I see all these "projects" putting up website with 0 content on them and just get annoyed. The only reason I made this post at all is that development is pretty slow now in the summer and we could use an extra hand with designing content at the moment.
The website will be up when we have more to show
I highly recommend getting a site up with at least a forum. This way you let people looking at it for the first time know you are serious about your project. You may know that you are serious but you need to show it to people that know nothing about it. This way you are more likely to get someone who is serious about the job.
Put the groundwork in getting a site up and it will seem a lot more professional.
I HIIIIGHLY recommend not to do so.
Make a DEV SITE at most.
Releasing a "to come summer 2013" website will make people never visit the page again.
Release a public website 1-2 months before public tests, or closed beta...
Zanval, it worked out with SVO didn't it? We had the site up a year before alpha ![]()
As I said, putting up a public website at this stage is out of the question. Zanval got it right, IMO its mostly teenagers with too high ambitions that put up websites for their games when they realistically cant have a clue themselves when the game will be released. As for devsite, we already have a wiki and a bug tracker that we use, I think that works fine for our project.
I dont really think putting up a website will attract the right kind of people, and its not like we are seriously hurting anyways. We got most of the stuff we need covered with our current team, I was just looking to see if I could find someone else with some good ideas and a pair of hands to speed the development up a bit.
And BTW this way of recruiting seemed to work fine since I already got a couple of emails from people that are interested in the spot on the team. Now please keep this thread on topic, I dont want to sound rude, but if you want to discuss whether or not its good to put up a website, get a community around your game or w/e start up a new thread about it.
Regards, Jonte
I didnt realize you were showing him an example of a site, for whatever reason (prolly too high) i thought you were trying to show the example of his game because sick asked if he had a site haha...
A website that isn't advertised won't bring the wrong attention at all. Your showing no kind of motivation for anyone to currently join your project at all, even us developers can be wowed in to wanting to join something, and this is an important step to bringing in new talent. For a project thats been going for a long period of time, some development shots wouldn't hurt anyone in a dev based forums thats made clear to the public what it is. No one is saying to make a coming soon website at all.
Man read it!!!! ![]()
Do you not have your own website for people to come and look at the current state of your game and see some work focused news?
