And I gotta say it feels amazing and is super loud (just the way I like it). The keys feel like they bottom out only 1/4 of the way down, its like a slim keyboard, but with massive keycaps and a lot of tactile feedback. Also for me its gonna take a while to get used to, the control key on my old keyboard was in the caps lock position (unix layout) so I keep hitting caps lock instead of control by accident. The other great thing is NO WINDOWS KEY! or any other useless key for that matter, saves me from having to pull out the things and exposing the innards of the keyboard.

Old keyboard (HHKB professional 2 with TOPRE Capacitative switches)

I bought a Unicomp one because the IBM model M doesn't have USB (which I need for starcraft tournaments lol), and also I want to support the fact that they bought the licence off IBM and kept them in production.

New keyboard (Unicomp customizer 101)

What it sounds like (not actually me). Its actually louder than in the vid too, the clacks you can almost hear from the other side of the house.

Jesus that thing is loud. While I like having keys with high feedback, I find the noise quite incredibly annoying.

I really like my current keyboard - its a cheap little Logitech 250. Think it cost me $10.

AutoHotKey ftw. Tongue

Media keys are something I really missed from my older keyboards, but I'm much happier with what I have now. Just a few little AutoHotKey mappings (both on keyboard and mouse) for next, previous, volume up/down, and pause. More convenient than the physical keyboard keys.

You think that's bad. I had to order one from America!!!

Unfortunately that's the nature of the beast, you can't try before you buy when its something rare like a mechanical keyboard or a limited edition anime figma. I've so far gotten a filco majestouch which I broke the keycaps on, followed by HHKB which is nice and compact but lacked the feel of the majestouch, and then I finally got the unicomp, which is funny because I was originally going to buy a buckling springs keyboard in the beginning before I got gruen transferred.

check ebay and what not for an ibm 42h1292. its the model bake's new toy is a reproduction of except for the lack of usb. can usually be found ~$30 or less.

dont dismiss the super key so quickly. an easily accessible modifier gives you a whole new set of binds, especially useful if you have a window manager with lots of alt- binds set up.

yeah they're loud but that's half the draw. its the audible and tactile feedback that makes them great. aside from not needing to put as much pressure on a key for it to register, you know for sure if you got a full key press or not. ever lay down a dozen lines of code just to find a typo because your Z key didnt register?

especially for the semi old timers (cough) who were introduced to PCs playing oregon trail at school computer lab; clicky keyboards just feel like home.

and why the heck is there a heart next to my name which i somehow never noticed?

You get the heart if you have donated money to the project
