I know no one will be using this in a while but I'd like to know what the options are and how it'll be done.
Right now SVO vbGore version used to have a 24/7 update server which managed the connection between the client and the http where the files are stored (they're stored on the website hosting).
How will this be done for the netgore client? I'd prefer http updates rather than having files locally on the server because that's way slower and eats my monthly bandwidth.
Spodi?
Exactly, and my max up speed is 200kb/s so when 10 people update they'd only get around 10kb/s each while downloading from skyon.be is around 2 to 3mb/s
Don't know, and not really concerned about it at all right now. I'll think about it when the time comes.
Probably can and will do it via HTTP, though, since it does give the advantage of cheaper bandwidth usage, and makes it easy to separate the bandwidth from the updating from the bandwidth from the game server. Otherwise, after you issue a big update and a lot of people start grabbing it, you'll probably drain the game server.
